Former New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Steve Smith, has impressed the coaching staff thus far this preseason.   Smith is about two years removed from a complex microfracture knee surgery and has come on strong the final few weeks of Rams camp.  Smith has been a pleasant surprise showing more speed than anticipated this preseason.  ESPN’s John Clayton has stated that Smith is on the “verge of a rebirth.”  If Smith could regain his form that he once had with the Giants a few season ago, the Rams will have found a hidden gem.  They will have found a solid wide receiver with a nose for finding the first down marker.  Smith has the chance to emerge from the preseason as the Rams number one wide out option.
